The new firmware lets you utilise wheel speed data from the vehicle’s CAN bus, to help maintain the accuracy of position and velocity measurements in areas with limited or no satellite coverage.
As you can see in the video, combining GNSS, inertial and wheel speed data enables you to accurately measure position and velocity in tunnels, dense urban environments, or anywhere else where satellite visibility is restricted, such as indoor car parks.
Additionally, using wheel speed data from the vehicle’s CAN bus removes the need to use expensive, external wheel speed sensors that are prone to damage.
The new firmware (v2.7) will also enable AB Dynamics steering robots to be used with the VBOX 3i, as well as seamless indoor / outdoor testing when used in conjunction with the VBOX Indoor Positioning System.
Please note: you can only install this firmware on v3, v4 and v5 variants of the VBOX 3i. If you have an older variant, you can trade it in and upgrade to the latest VBOX 3i, with great savings available until 30 September 2020.
